As Penang and other states in Malaysia lie within the tropical zone, plenty of fresh tropical fruits are sold around Penang markets and fruit stalls.  At the Tropical Fruit Farm in Teluk Bahang, you may get the chance to pluck fruits directly from the trees and eat them fresh if you visit Penang at the right time, that is, during the ripening season.

Tropical fruits can also be bought everywhere from grocery stores and hypermarkets.  Non-seasonal fruits like pineapple, watermelon, papaya, banana, dragon-fruit, honey dew, star fruit, jack fruit, and green coconuts are usually available throughout the year. Fresh fruit drinks are served everywhere from hawker stalls to restaurants and hotels.  You can even order the whole coconut and get it served on the table with a straw to sip fresh  coconut water, which is very nutritious.
