Lebuh Campbell ( Campbell Street) , George Town Penang
Lebuh Campbell(Campbell Street),
is located within the buffer zone of the
George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Campbell street is associated with the Hokien dialect name as
'Sin Kay', meaning new road. The heritage shops at Lebuh
Campbell used to be the major outlet for garment materials,
shoes, clothing and general merchandise before the 1980's. But
its popularity in Penang declined with flourish of shopping
malls which can provide more sophisticated and complete range of
products and in air-conditioned departmental stores. Most of the
shops are now running business as wholesalers, except for the
well established pioneer
gold jewellers and a traditional Chinese
herbs shop which is well known as 'CHENG WOH MEDICAL HALL'.
There are also
antique shops located near the end portion of
the road. Campbell Street Wet Market is just a short walking
distance away at the road end junction.
