Penang sea tour by ferry and penang bridge Each of the 6 ferries has different names, but they all goes to the same terminals between Penang island and mainland. The ferry names are Pulau Undan, Pulau Angsa, Pulau Rimau, Pulau Pinang, Palau Payar, Pulau Kapas, Pulau Rawa and Pulau Talang-Talang. The word 'Pulau' is a Malay word for island.

The ferry service operates from 5.30 am until midnight. Travelling time between the 2 terminals is about 15 minutes. The charges for 2-way trip are: RM1.20 for passengers and RM7.70 for vehicles. Waiting time is normally about 20 minutes, unless there is any unusual traffic congestion at Penang Bridge when smart drivers start turning to the ferry as an alternative to cross the sea.

The ferry has 2 decks, very spacious and comfortable enough to enjoy the 20 minutes trip. The upper deck is reserved for pedestrians with benches provided for free seating. The ferry fare is considerably cheap while the surrounding sea waters are calm and relaxing.  From the upper deck, the view of Penang coastline is magnificent as the ferry approaches the island.

Penang Travel Tips :

If you are staying around Georgetown or the northern regions, you can consider crossing over to the mainland part of

Penang, by ferry and then drive back via Penang Bridge. The ferry trip is about 20 minutes and charged at RM7.70

for 2 ways. Penang Bridge toll is RM7.00. As both ferry and toll charges are collected on Mainland side, you are only

charged once, that is, at the returning terminal only.

Perhaps when you are in mainland Penang, you may drive over to Auto City Juru, which is a food haven with multi

national cuisine restaurants and pub for drinking. To reach Auto-City Juru, you need to follow " Kuala Lumpur/Ipoh"

Highway after Penang Bridge, about 5 minutes drive from there. And if you are staying around the southern part of

Penang, then you should go via Penang Bridge and then return by ferry.
