WAR MEMORIALS AT ESPLANADE SEAFRONT IN GEORGETOWN, PENANG 

archaic cenotaph is located at esplanade seafront in Penang The archaic Cenotaph at the famous Esplanade seafront is a historic monument erected to honour those who perished during World War I. The Esplanade seafront is located along Jalan Padang Kota Lama, George Town Penang.

Next to it, stands another smaller monument with the inscription "Lest We Forget." This smaller memorial is to remember the war heroes who perished in other wars and emergencies, including World War II, the Malaysian Emergency of 1948 -1960, and the Re-Insurgency Period.

 

 

 
War Memorial is located at the esplanade in georgetown Every year war veterans from Penang Veterans Association, representatives from Australia, United Kingdom, Fiji, Nepal, Canada, Indonesia, Thailand and Britain would come to attend the ceremony of giving honour and offer respect to those who had suffered and sacrificed during the time of war and national emergencies.


FORT CORNWALLIS, the historical military base of the British East India Company which was built by Captain Francis Light after landing in Penang island in 1786 is also located within a short walking distance from the monument site, facing the seafront.
