Cina Peranakan (Baba Nyonya) descended from the unique mix-marriages between local Malays and the early Chinese immigrant settlers.  The other mixed marriage groups are Jawi Peranakan and  Arab Peranakan from different foreign races.  For Cina Peranakan, the males are referred to as Baba and the female as Nyonya.


The mansion was built at the end of the 19th century by a successful business tycoon, the architecture incorporated Chinese carved wood panels with English floor tiles and Scottish iron work structures.  The mansion offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of  Cina Peranakan big families living together, their traditions and customs.


Penang famous Nyonya sour and spicy curry cuisine originated from the cooking talents of this mixed race.
