famous heritage temples in penang and mainland When visiting Buddhist temples, you may only see statues of Buddha being placed at the altar.  But in Chinese Taoist temples,  statues of Buddha, Goddess of Mercy and many other legendary gods will be seen around the temple.  Pictures of Gods are usually painted on the doors at the entrance of the Taoist temples.  These Gods are believed to be 'Door Gods' who have the power of protecting the  temple and bar illegal entry by demons and evil spirits.

There are many other local temples built nearer to the residential areas around Penang island and the mainland, but a visit to any of the above rich heritage temples will be enough to keep you fascinated. and busy with your camera shooting.  Also take note that Penang temples are open to all visitors irrespective of any race, except that visitors must be properly dressed as respect for the community.
